What is Anger?

Anger is an emotion characterized by antagonism toward someone or something you feel has deliberately done you wrong. Anger is an emotion which proves hazardous to a human body.

Excessive anger has high adverse effects on a body. Adrenaline named and other chemicals enter in your bloodstream when you get angry. It increases blood pressure and heart pumps faster too which gives excessive stress on your body. Extra anger leads you to quicken your blood flow and it tenses your muscles. Anger affects your emotional health as well. Various negative emotions such as embarrassed, scared, grief, distrustful, annoyed, disappointed run through your mind which makes you a pessimistic person.

Causes of Anger:

Anger has wide sources. Some of the common anger triggers are loss of patience, feeling unappreciated to your opinions or efforts, feeling of injustice occurring every time. Other causes of anger include memories of traumatic or enraging events and worrying about personal problems. Personal problems include missing a promotion at work, workload at office, relationship problems, traffic issues, accidents, cancellation of plans at the 11th hour. Addiction of alcohol and other drug substances lead to serious anger.

In some cases hormonal changes can also lead to anger so can certain mental disorders.

How to manage Anger?

Once a saint was asked-

“What is anger?”

‘’It is a punishment we give to our self, for somebody else’s mistake!’’ Saint replied beautifully.

So, it is always better to manage anger than punishing our self.

The best way to manage anger is self-awareness. Still, there are some common methods which one should adopt to control anger which are easy too.

Relaxation:

Whenever you feel angry or irritated just close your eyes and have a good deep breathing. This eases the tension in your body and relaxes your muscles. Also, you have to keep saying to yourself “calm, cool, take it easy, relax” This may sound different but it is extremely effective.

Meditation and yoga are the best relaxation techniques to demolish your anger.

Adopting Cognitive Skills:

Changing the way you think can change the way you express your anger. It is easy for a person to think dramatically when he/she gets angry. It is always a better idea to express yourself more rational than irrational. Avoid using the words “always” and “never” in your thoughts and speech. Such terms are inaccurate and can make you feel like your anger is justified, which makes it worse.

Communication:

Good communication can solve any problem in the world. People often jump the ultimate outcome or conclusion after getting angry. This leads to a danger and disturbs the relationship. One should always possess the listening capacity of other person in a conversation. Healthy communication helps you in tackling problems before anger escalates.

Advantages of Anger Management:

  • Better Communication
  • Empathy
  • Fewer Disputes
  • Healthier Relationships
